Data Engineer

Join the new climate technology startup that is radically shifting the trajectory of global sustainability!

At Altruistiq we believe that business has the capacity to create benefit for all its stakeholders, but that this transition to stakeholder capitalism requires a new kind of corporate intelligence. Our company is developing the tools to underpin that intelligence - to track environment, social and governance indicators, define what needs to be done, and channel resources to where they are needed most. This could mean helping the world’s largest brands to change farming practices in India, wind down coal power plants in Africa, or increase the reusability of packaging materials in Europe.

We are building a SaaS product to help the world’s largest companies increase the sustainability of their global supply chains. We are an early-stage venture, backed by some of the world’s most recognisable names in sustainable investing, including the founders of multiple successful tech ventures (including 3 exits, and one unicorn), former chairs of Barclay’s Bank and UBS, and multiple CEOs from the private equity/asset management industry. Our company is post-revenue, working with category leaders in private equity, FMCG, food service and logistics. We are currently facing a massive, growing demand base and scaling up the team rapidly to meet it.

We are bringing together an exciting and innovative data engineering and data science team to develop the core data engine powering Sustainability reporting, analytics, and simulation for our customers. Delivering increasingly accurate sustainability metrics is a significant and fun data challenge, requiring creativity and technical excellence. You will have an opportunity to shape how data can be used to improve large organisations' (multi-billion dollar revenues) sustainability initiatives, making a real impact on our climate and planet, whilst using the latest technology. As one of the first team members, you will also play a role in building out the data function, bringing on new team members, and helping to build a fun, challenging, planet-conscious engineering team!

  • Supporting internal research and development to explore new and innovative ways of resolving and extracting value from large, complex data landscapes
  • Identifying and liaising with 3rd party data providers / suppliers to enrich customer data and improve the accuracy of customer metrics
  • Collaborating closely with data scientists and insights manager to engineer high value features
  • About you::
  • Proven experience building and optimising production data products in Cloud environments (preferably AWS)
  • Proven experience integrating data from on-premise to Cloud environments across different integration patterns (batch, API-based)
  • Experience working in multi-tenanted data environments
  • Strong Python. PySpark and SQL development skills and experience working with code management systems/gitflows
  • Knowledge of data security and privacy considerations and associated controls
  • Demonstrable experience working across structured and unstructured data formats and complex wrangling
  • Data warehousing and data modelling experience, for traditional relational/dimensional models and NoSQL (key-value/document/graph)
  • Good experience working alongside data scientists and an understanding of machine learning approaches and preferably (although not essential) some experience of building and deploying machine learning models
  • Some experience of DevOps including infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD, serverless computing, containerisation (Docker/Kubernetes)
